Seasonal attractions in downtown include the Magnolia Farmer’s Market during spring, summer and fall months, Outdoor Movie Nights on the Square, Art Walk, Trick-or-Treat on Main Street, Downtown in December holiday festivities, Shop Small Saturday, and many others. Dancing with the Stars and Colton’s Main Street Run are premier annual events that raise funds for downtown projects. One of the primary promoters of Down- town Durant is the Durant Main Street program, a non-profit, community based organization dedicated to revitalizing histor- ic downtown Durant by promoting pres- ervation, economic growth, and a sense of community. Founded in 1997, the program partners with small business merchants, property investors, community leaders, and volunteers to enhance the downtown dis- trict, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Durant Main Street program models its operations after the “Four Point Ap- proach” developed by the National Main Street organization as a proven method of comprehensive commercial district revital- ization. There are four specific points, which work together to build a sustainable, and complete community revitalization effort: Organization, Design, Promotions, and Economic Vitality.
